MSEA will charge State Retirees with a new fee

Why did anyone jump to the conclusion that retirees would be paying any fee to MSEA? Sounds to me like the employees of MSRS (an independent public agency of the State of Maine) that do not currently belong to the union have escaped the threats of the fair-share payment. Until now. IMHO this has nothing to do with retirees.

lump sum payment

Sorry to be so late on responding.
There are several options available when you retiree. Lump sum payment is just one. Most others are how you want your money despersed if yyou should die early. (spousal benefits) In my situation, it was determined ( with the help of an outside financial advisor) that it was better to take lump sum payment for me and FULL benefit for my wife ( if she dies , I get nothing ) and buy insurance on the outside. That way, as we get older we can decrease the amount of insurance payments. the people at the State were very good at explanning all the seven or eight pay-out options. They are not biased in any way to "keep" your money. After all, they want to retiree too.

DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT retire without listening to their explanation of retirement benefits or seeking the help of a financial advisor!

Calvin's advice is sound. You should not just take a lump sum because of some fear of the state. In some circumstances, that would be a big mistake. Do what Calvin suggests before making a decision.

Be aware that those who belong to MSRS and have their 40 quarters in for SS will
be penalized upon retirement by an offset law that effects several states but not all!
This is another way public employees get screwed! Those of you with privaste pendsion plans
and SS will get full amount owed you.
This is one reason why retirees go to florida and live there 6 mos and a day.

I would gladly give up a bit of my Social Security alreayd earned if I could contribute to my 401K from now on without paying into Social Security.

I am all for eliminating the offset for public employees, if they also have to contribute to Social Security just like everyone else.

any MSRS members here on AMG?

Has anyone heard any updates about if the MSEA-SEIU is planning to implement their "fair share fee" on either the MSRS staff or the membership? Are there any MSRS members here on AMG? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

When you make comments like that you should be able to back them up.
What was said was that we represent the Maine State Retirement System employees in contract negotiations and that we want to get fair share in the contract. We did not say that we wanted to charge retirees a fair share fee nor do we plan on that as it is impossible. No retiree will ever be asked to pay a fair share fee. They only pay a small amt of dues now and are great members and do a lot for the organization.

Hey unionman, how do you know what was said at that meeting?
How many current clients of MSEA are paying the so-called "fair share fee" you're charging with No Accountability?
When are you going to stop playing games with your members and their hard-earned money?

Get your plunger ready unionman, because the fat lady is getting ready to sing and will ruin your fake parade.
Green Valley Association
My mother-in-law has worked for green valley for 20+ years now, and she still pays into SS weekly. Hopefully she will see the light of the likes of Dana and won't be disappointed when the "older" unionized group of workers there retire and the younger set, who have pretty much refused to join the union disban it altogether. Also, she doesn't pay into MSRS either, and I've seen her pay stubs. I wonder, will the state continue to pay for her health insurance upon her retirement like they do lots of others. This lady is over 70 and refuses to retire due to the cost of the health insurance her and my father-in-law have.

No unionman, I'm not bitter.
Unlike some of the clowns within your organization, I believe in seeking justice for poor accountability and highly questionable business practices. It's only a matter of time. By the way, you really should learn how to use Spell Check.

What about your comment that you "want to charge the fair share fee to everyone MSEA represents"?
When is this going to happen with your other clients like York County, City of Lewiston, Maine Maritime, Maine Turnpike Authority, etc.?
Why have you refused to discuss our concerns in a public forum?

Quite the opposite, unionman, as that hole you're in just keeps getting deeper and deeper... it's only a matter of time now.

You have said that for two years and now you are begging. A union that runs on car washes and a dollar here and a dollar there. Ha!

WHY DO YOU ANSWER UNIONMAN

Hello unionman

Maybe you feel you don't need to answer luv2travle's questions as he is not a union member but you are trying to force him and the others whom the union stabed in the back to pay and as a SUPPORTIVE UNION MEMBER, I feel you owe him and the others an answer. Hell you owe me an answer as a member and the other on this site as well.

The problem is with you unionman is you've spouted of so many lies, you have not been able to keep track of them. As for the Union, maybe luv2tavle has been say it's going to die for a while, but like any evil thing, it takes time to KILL IT! You from what I am hearing out and about and not hearing from the Union tells me they are in for one HELL OF A SHOCK in a month or so when the DeCert cards are counted and there is enough for a vote.

You and that so called leadership have pissed off a lot of active members by screwing the past members and those who did not wish to join before it was made manditoy, now you will have to face the music.

So guess you can't even answer a member. See this is why your Union is going to lose membership within the State Workers. You don't represent the little guy, only your own GREED! Shame as you could have had it both ways but you elected not to.

Me losing sleep. I think not unionman. just your wishful thinking. Maybe I'll be seeing you on the 30th of March and again on the 13th of April. Will be interesting to see the outcomes of both dates. Sleep well unionman, sleep well. LMAO @ U

Town, Unionman can only only post MSEA-SEIU press releases and call people names. He will never answer a direct question. It is this arrogance that will result in a loss of at least one bargaining unit in April.

Here's an example of why state employees deserve a better union with a more experienced/educated president... just listen to this interview with the current
"president" of MSEA-SEIU:

There's lots of chatter again that MSEA is preparing to implement their so-called "fair share" fee on state retirees, and many of their recent actions indicate this could be true. What do you say unionman, does your union still want to charge this "fee" to all state retirees? Are you still working to implement this "fee" into all of your other non-state contracts as well?

That chatter must be from chipmunks Luv2Travel, or you are hearing things. (which probably wouldn't be the first time in history).
